The Christian Science Reading Room
Tri-State Committee
The 2011 Annual Meeting was held on November 15th at 5th Church of Christ, Scientist. It was a wonderful opportunity to review a year of local commitment to our neighbors’ needs in our work during the 9/11 events, as well as confirming the Christian Science commitment to the world’s needs in a richly informative talk by the editor of The Christian Science Monitor, John Yemma. Committee Chairman Doug Finney gave an overall picture of the progress of this joint Reading Room, Linda Cheney, the treasurer, reported on its sound financial condition, Kay Zurcher, Head Librarian, reviewed the necessity of putting the value of the textbook foremost. Cindy Roemer then summarized the months of dedicated work done for the 10th anniversary of 9/11. John Yemma’s talk, “News that Seeks Solutions,” gave the audience an historical understanding of the crucial role of the Monitor’s journalism, the startling progress in readership since its 24/7 internet format, and during the question and answers, he urged everyone to use it as it was meant to be used: a platform for prayer, to heal the world.
